Maybe I’m on Maui

Maui is a wonder to behold.  Its geographical diversity absolutely amazes me.  Drive an hour, or even half an hour and you feel like you’re in a completely different place; definitely not the stereotypical palm tree and beach scene that comes to mind with the mention of Hawai’i.  Upcountry Maui (land on the higher elevations of Maui’s dormant volcano, Haleakala) feels nothing like your picturesque tropical beach scene.  I get more of a Northern California, Pacific coast feeling from this area and I must say, I love it.

The following photographs were taken while hiking/exploring some of what Maui’s upcountry area has to offer.  Just off Olinda Road is a marvelous forest re-growth; follow the trail down to the spring and you’ll come across some amazing and eerie ancient lava tubes.
